New Open With Functionality
The Windows Explorer in Windows 2000 has been greatly enhanced
in lots of "small yet powerful" ways. For example, you can right
click on any file and select Open With... (even if the file has a default
program to open that is configured for the file's extension). You are
prompted with a list of known applications from the system registry. You
can pick one of these or browse to your own executable.
Explorer remembers this application and it will be presented in the context
menu for quick activation in the future. It's really useful if for example
you use multiple image-editing programs such as Paint Shop Pro, MS PhotoDraw, MS
Paint, etc. You can open right click any graphic file and select which
program to use to open it. (Or just double-click the file to use the
default program.)
