 Repair Console

The last remaining reason to install a FAT partition on an NT workstation or the server was to access it when the machine refused to boot.  The Repair Console is an excellent solution to this problem - one that doesn't compromise your data security.  You can install it to be a boot option or you can access it by booting with the Windows 2000 Setup disks, then choose Repair, then use the Recovery Console.  If you want to install it as an option in the boot loader, use these steps:

  1. Insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM in your computer while in Windows 2000, Windows NT or Windows 95/98.
  2. After Autorun has completed, open a command line and enter the following text: WINNT32 /cmdconsole.
  3. The next time you boot, notice a new selection at the boot loader called the Repair Console.  Select Repair Console to boot your system using the Repair Console.
