Lathe Type

Select the machine type from the pull-down list associated with this control. The types of available machines are described below:

Single Turret Horizontal Lathe

Choose this machine type if your machine is a lathe with the spindle oriented horizontally and it has only a single turret.

Single Turret Vertical Lathe

Choose this machine type if your machine is a lathe or vertical boring mill with the spindle oriented vertically and it has only a single turret.

Dual Turret Horizontal Lathe, Turrets on same slide, Front Turret is Primary

Choose this machine type if your machine is a lathe with the spindle oriented horizontally, it has two turrets both of which are affixed to the same slide and the front turret is considered to be the primary turret. Both turrets are programmed using the XZ motion registers. The secondary turret is accommodated by entering the XZ offset distances between the turrets.

Dual Turret Horizontal Lathe, Turrets on same slide, Rear Turret is Primary

Choose this machine type if your machine is a lathe with the spindle oriented horizontally, it has two turrets both of which are affixed to the same slide and the rear turret is considered to be the primary turret. Both turrets are programmed using the XZ motion registers. The secondary turret is accommodated by entering the XZ offset distances between the turrets.

Dual Turret Horizontal Lathe, Turrets on separate slides, Front Turret is Primary

Choose this machine type if your machine is a lathe with the spindle oriented horizontally, it has two turrets that are attached to independent slides and the front turret is considered to be the primary turret. The primary turret typically is programmed with XZ motion registers and the secondary turret is typically programmed with UW motion registers.

Choose this machine type if your machine is a lathe with the spindle oriented vertically, it has two turrets that are attached to independent slides and the rear turret is considered to be the primary turret. Primary Turret

This selection will indicate to the postprocessor which turret on your machine will be treated as the primary turret. On machine tools with position register preset functions, this option has less influence on the output produced. A more obvious circumstance would be a machine that operates in absolute mode only. In this case all dimension codes would be output relative to the primary turret and offset to the secondary turret.
