Machine Control Data File
The machine control data file is the file produced that ultimately is taken to the machine controller to produce the part being programmed. Historically this file has also been referred to as the tape image file and/or the punch file.
In today's networked environment fewer and fewer machine controls even have tape readers. It is much more common to have a floppy drive, a serial port or even an ethernet card installed for inputting the "tape image" or machine control data file.
