Milling Machine Types

Select the machine type from the pull-down list associated with this control. The types of available machines are described below:

Mills without Rotary Axes

Choose this machine type if your machine has positioning capabilities in two (XY) or three (XYZ) axes and does not have a head or table capable of rotating or positioning under feedrate control. This machine type is often used for machine types other than mills such as punch presses, plasma arc cutters, laser cutters, etc. If your machine has a rotary or positioning table (or head) that cannot be positioned under feedrate control, you should likewise choose this option.

4-Axis Rotary Table

Choose this machine type if your machine has positioning capabilities in the X, Y and Z(W) axes and also has a rotary table (on which the part is normally fixed) that is capable of positioning under feedrate control around the X, Y or Z(W) axis.

4-Axis Rotary Head

Choose this machine type if your machine has positioning capabilities in the X,Y and Z(W) axes and also has a movable head (on which the tool is normally mounted) that can be positioned under feedrate control about the X, Y or Z(W) axis.

5-Axis Rotary Table

Choose this machine type if your machine has positioning capabilities in the X, Y and Z(W) axes and also has a dual rotary table (on which the part is normally fixed) that is capable of positioning (in two planes) under feedrate control about the X/Y, Y/Z or X/Z axes.

Example of a dual rotary table, Primary table rotates about Y axis (B rotary), Secondary table rotates about X axis (A axis).

5-Axis Rotary Table/Rotary Head

Choose this machine type if your machine has positioning capabilities in the X, Y and Z(W) axes and also has both a rotary table (on which the part is normally fixed) and a movable head (on which the tool is normally fixed) that are capable of rotation/positioning under feedrate control about the X/Y, Y/Z or X/Z axes.

Example of a rotary table/rotary head machine, Primary rotary axis is about Y axis (B rotary table), Secondary rotary axis is about X axis (A rotary head).

5-Axis Dual Rotary Head or Nutator

Choose this machine type if your machine has positioning capabilities in the X, Y and Z(W) axes and also has a rotary table (on which the part is normally fixed) capable of positioning under feedrate control about the X/Y, Y/Z or X/Z axes. This machine type should also be chosen if your machine is equipped with a nutating head.

Rotary Axis with Radial Axis (Live Tooling)

Choose this machine type if your machine has positioning capabilities in the X,Y and Z(W) axes and also has a movable head (on which the tool is normally mounted) that can be positioned under feedrate control about the X, Y or Z axis. In addition these machines have a live tooling head that rotates about a different axis (X, Y or Z) than the movable head.
